Curriculum Basics
Academic learning will largely be arts project based. The content produced by the middle school students will be educational and instructional. It may be presented in a video series similar to The Electric Company show from the 1970's. High school students will create content on a variety of topics. Controversial subjects and books will not be avoided. Students will be given a framework and guidelines. They will not be told what to think, but shown how to think and support their opinions and findings.
Daily meditation is MANDATORY and is NOT religious. Students will have office cubicles for independent study and work. There will be creative lab rooms and studios for collaborative work and lab sessions. Homework WILL NOT be assigned. Letter grades WILL NOT be issued. Students will produce portfolios for review and evaluation.
All students will be part of a creative class business venture. They will be expected to rotate roles within the business. They will develop accounting, finance and bookkeeping skills.
Instructors will vary and will only be present for their scheduled class times each day and will only work within their expertise. Facilitators will supervise the students throughout the day as they transition activities.
SHED TALKS
The SHED will host weekly forums with dope individuals and influencers in media and entertainment. These speakers will share their personal stories and offer inspiration. Many will be former students, but there will be national influencers as well to include Amanda Seals, Joy Ried, Karen Hunter, and more.
